Planning Application for South Tees Eco-Park
Issued: 14 December 2007
The conversion of a former steelworks site at South Bank into Teesside's first custom-designed integratedwaste management complex has taken a major step forward with the submission of a planning application by Graphite Resources for Phase 1 of the South Tees Eco Park development. The application includes the company's own revolutionary steam autoclave facility, Proteus, which applies proven technology, originally developed to sterilise medical equipment, to process unsorted household and industrial waste. Graphite claims it will achieve a dramatic 75% or better diversion of household waste from landfill.
The potential of the site to revolutionise the way waste is managed in the Tees Valley was further illustrated by the commissioning of a study, funded jointly by RTV and the Redcar & Cleveland LEGI funding team, to assess the feasibility of establishing a new civic amenity facility on the site.
