Don't Bin It - Win It! (BAN Waste)
Main Activities: BAN Waste is currently working in partnership with Newcastle City Council on an incentive scheme called ‘Don’t Bin It Win It!’ to encourage more households to take part in the city’s kerbside recycling scheme.  The scheme is targeted at over 100,000 households who have access to the city’s kerbside recycling collection service and will be extended to a further 85,000 households in North Tyneside Council later in 2006.

Little Wasters cic
Little Wasters is a community interest company that undertakes community engagement, education, media and consultation work around waste and sustainability issues. Little Wasters works in partnership with Newcastle City Council to promote the city's kerbside recycling scheme through an incentive prize draw. Called 'Recycle and Win!' the prize draw offers residents who recycle using their black box the chance of winning a wide range of prizes. Little Wasters uses a mix of community initiatives, marketing, press and consultation work to raise the profile of recycling, and in particular Newcastle's kerbside scheme. The campaign is funded through a combination of local authority support and sponsorship. Little Wasters also coordinate the recycling at Newcastle Community Green Festival.

During 2007-8 they are managing Newcastle's 'Don’t Bin It-win It' kerbside incentive scheme, carrying out intensive community engagement work in Cowgate and promoting the city's Recycling Assisted Lift service.

Play Together
Main activities: Play Together has responsibility for developing and enhancing play in Sunderland. Part of the service we offer to be able to achieve this is to provide a scrap store to a number of play and youth projects across the City.  We collect unwanted and waste materials from local business such as card, coloured paper and vinyl, cardboard tubes, material and a whole host of other materials. We then prepare and present these materials for use as art and craft and creative play materials. Play projects are invited to come to our scrap store and buy scrap by the bag.

We are open for sale of scrap of a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning between 9.30am and 12.30pm.

REACT Project - Durham Wildlife Trust
Main Activities: The REACT project is a partnership project run by Durham Wildlife Trust, with the support of North of England Refugee Service and Commercial Road Youth Project to establish various different types of garden around East Community Centre in Hendon.  Within this project they aim to include an organic garden with scope to grow fruit and vegetables, as well as sensory, wildlife, cultural and peace gardens. Rotter Community Composting
Main activities: "Rotters" operate a kerbside collection of green waste in Barnard Castle in 2004 rolling out into Teesdale district by 2006. We collect, receive and recycle green domestic waste into compost and timber into charcoal, or for large bits can be cut into usable timber products. All products being distributed locally, with some products sold on site. This project is an extension of our training for long-term unemployed and regeneration in Teesdale.

Main activities: The "Recycling for Reuse" project collects unwanted furniture and white goods that are in working order (including fridges and cookers), refurbishes and distributes them to the community. Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens
Main activities: Community farms and gardens have grown from within their local community. Each has its own distinctive flavour and appeal that reflects its local environment. Many are involved in composting activities; some run bicycle recycling projects; many recycle wood for use at the farm or garden.
